that need to be maintained to prevent loss or expenses that could have been avoided:
 |
 |
 |
- All types of siding should be power washed periodically to prevent the build-up of oxidation on the surfaces.
- The
caulking around windows, doors, siding butt ends and trim should be
maintained yearly to prevent water and air infiltration and
deterioration of those elements.
- The paintable surfaces of the siding and trim should be re-painted every 5-7 years.
- The use of a mildew inhibitor mixed with the paint can help curb its growth.
- Metal
and peel and stick head flashings can prevent the infiltration of water
into the wall cavities thus preventing the growth of molds.
- When engaging a contractor, preparation of the surfaces is the key before getting started.
- Don’t
skimp on the materials used, a good brand widely used may be more
expensive, however, the finished product will be the reward in itself.

To save electricity and money switch out your incandescent bulbs for florescent bulbs; they burn cooler and last on average 8-10 times as long.

Tip of the Month |
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
If you are planning a vacation or an extended leave from home, turn off those large appliances
that will not be used in your absence. For example, turn off the water
heater and set your thermostat on your HVAC system at 85 degrees.
Additionally unplug those small appliances that could be adversely affected by a lightning storm. You will not only save money, but you could save your house.
